Programme sequentiality

The program is a continuation of the bachelor programmes of the first degree Insurance matematics or  Mathematics and is followed by the PhD. study program Probability and Mathematical Statistics.

Brief history of the study programme

The  program follows the preceding study of probability and matemathematical statistics on FMFI UK.

Requirements on study applicant (Requirements for acceptance)

To go through a first degree bacalar study program in study branch  Statistics or  Mathematics  and through the acceptance procedure required for the program.

(For details see Kritériá pre prijímacie konanie na Fakulte matematiky, fyziky a informatiky UK)

Educational and professional objectives

To acquaint students with the study branch  Statis-tics, with its aims, methods and professional possibilities of do well in practise.

Subject focus and brief description

Course can be devided into two groups, the first aimed  more theoreticaly and the second  more practically, but mostly both these two aspects are connected. In two courses the semester projects devoted to the evaluation of  statistical data are planned.

Graduates' profile

The graduate students of second degree study program deeply understand the approaches of statistics. They master selected statistical methods, and are able, by the help of computers and of statistical packages, to proceed individually by collecting statistical data and by their analyses using different statistical methods. They are able to obtain useful information from the data as a base for making decisions. They are able to assist by teaching statistical courses on high schools and universities.

Graduates' competence and job opportunities

The use of graduate students of the study program is given by the wide spectrum of the scientific and social areas where statistics is used. Graduate students of this study branch can be used in different natural, economical, technical and sociological spheres, in finance, ensurance companies, banks, but also in Civil Services, bussiness and administration. They can find jobs also in pharmacology and medicine.

Specific features of the programme

The courses will be mostly evaluated ongoing by tests and final evaluations will be by examinations.
